This Week’s Learning:

How To Use LinkedIn Effectively As A Designer?

In our recent group session, Kristine Yuen, Vicky Gao, and Brandon Lal ☻ have shared some helpful and effective tips on how to optimize your LinkedIn profile effectively for maximum exposure:

1. Customize Profile Top Card

  • Customize your background photo to show what you are passionate about

  • Utilize the headline to show your role

  • Adding location can help you be discovered 23x more in searches

2. Update Contact Info

  • The contact info section makes it easier for recruiters to find your email and portfolio

  • Add a link to your relevant websites such as blogs, video channels, and other social media

3. Treat Profile Summary As an “Elevator Pitch”

  • Highlight your strength, particularly soft skills, and hard skills relevant to design.

  • Don’t make it too short or dense. 40+ words make it more likely to show up in searches.

4. Add Relevant Skills

  • Arrange your top 3 skills by the importance that you want to be found

  • Having relevant skills help you show up 27x more appearance in search results

  • Take skill assessments

5. Ask For Recommendation

  • Ask recommendations from teachers, employers, managers, or former colleagues

  • Recommendations could help build credibility and validate your role by peers

6. Create relevant and engaging posts

  • Make posts public to get a bigger audience

  • Use @mention and #hashtags to get attention from certain areas

  • Add links, videos, or photos to make posts visually appealing
