🔥 Learning of the week:
How To Give or Receive Effective Feedback? ✨
In this week's learning, our mentor- Minjun Chen the Product Designer at (formerly) Amazon & Wayfair share effective tips to give and share design feedback.
1. Think about who is your audience:
Who are you trying to communicate with
What kind of context do they need
Does your audience care about business alignment or visuals
2. How to receive feedback:
As Designers:
Share project context
Ask for specific feedback
As Product Managers and Engineers:
Set up a meeting agenda and send out relevant documents ahead of time
Summarize the problems you are trying to solve
Talk about your design recommendations with a strong design rationale
Talk about what PMs and Engineers care about.
3. What to do with tons of feedback?
Start with a positive tone
Ask questions
Go back to the agenda
Summarize the key decisions, open questions, and the next steps
4. How to give feedback:
Start with what works well, follow with what does not work well
Deliver your feedback with empathy and respect
Talk about your perspectives and design rationale
End with open-ended questions
5. Remember that:
Feedback is a gift
No one in the room knows better about the design than you
