How to empower product teams through UX Research? ✨

As a UX Researcher, you may already have your style of approach when communicating or collaborating with the product teams. Mentor Shrut Kirti Saksena, will share more on the role as a UX Research and how you can empower the product teams through UX Research.

1. Some of the roles as a UX Researcher in the team:

  • Partner with the product team to develop the project scope.

  • Involving product teams in user research to promote empathy first-hand.

  • Providing actionable recommendations that serve as directions for product teams.

  • Educating product teams about users and their environment.

  • Socializing research insights to enhance the self-life of findings with product teams.

2. The relationship between UX Researchers & product managers:

  • They complete each other like peanut butter and jelly, cinnamon and sugar, and pasta and cheese.

  • Have the same goal which is to create products that people would love to use.

  • Product managers use the research findings as one of the elements in the decision-making process about what to build.

3. Ways to approach and collaborate with the product teams:

  • Discovering opportunities to innovate with product teams

  • Designing for the ecosystem, for the future.

  • Look into physical barriers and limitations; designing for cost.

  • Collaborate and define the problem statement better.

  • Solve, test, iterate together.

  • Co-create product and design strategy.

4. How can UX Researcher benefit by empowering the product team:

  • Enhance perceived credibility & authenticity.

  • Increased empathy by product teams.

  • Get seen as experts.

  • Influence product-decision making.

  • Create impact with what really matters.

5. Other advice to be a successful UXR:

  • Work collaboratively with other teams.

  • Be analytical.

  • Understand the design process.

  • Measuring UXR success: “Success is not measured through metrics, it is the finding insights that influence the overall product strategies.”
